Have you ever wondered what a hero dose of psilocybin feels like?
What Is Psilocybin?
Psilocybin, the powerhouse in psychedelic mushrooms, is shaking up science with its potential to extend life. By rewiring your brain and slashing stress, it taps into deep, stress-responsive mechanisms that bridge mind and body, potentially adding vibrant years. The compound, derived from psychedelic mushrooms, dissolved mental barriers, letting us process pain we buried for years.
Chronic stress, anxiety, and trauma don’t just cloud your mind. They age your body.
The mind-body connection is the key to longevity, and psilocybin might be a powerful tool to unlock it.
Why Psychedelics?
I’m a massive fan of hero dosing psychedelics for a spiritual journey to:
- Break rigid patterns.
- Work through blocks.
- Get over PTSD quickly.
- Smash limiting beliefs.
- Overcome a creative block.
- Raise nervous system capacity.
- Take my soul to another level.
Psychedelics aren’t creating something new in you; instead, they highlight gently what you may need to face. From there, your task is to integrate the teachings into your daily life through activities such as journaling, therapy, time in nature, and embodiment. This is when you become the medicine, as you increasingly live from your inner knowing.
Every journey is different. Two people can take the same amount and strain and have a completely different experience because the plant acts on what the person needs at the moment. This is also why I think Big Pharma will never be able to create a drug to emulate psilocybin or any medicine.
⚠️ COMMON SENSE DISCLAIMER: This post is purely anecdotal from my personal experience as somebody who is super advanced in doing self-guided psychedelic mushroom journeys for spiritual reasons. I have 15+ years of mind-training and self-coaching through my life experience experiences.
Psychedelics are not 'party drugs'. To me, they are purely used for spiritual reasons. I've gotten over a severe PTSD, trauma and smashed limiting beliefs.
Plant medicine is NOT something to mess around with. They can break your mind if you don't know what you're doing. If you're new to this, considern a guided journey with a shaman and start with lower doses.
Many have bad trips on psychedelics because they show you reality for what it is and most of you are not ready to face your true reality. There's a reason why certain memories and emotions are buried so deep in your subconscious because your brain is trying to protect you from traumatic experiences that has happened to you throughout your lifetime.
Spiritual Awakening: The Path to Expanded Capacity
Awakening, in spiritual terms, is the realization of your divine nature beyond the illusion of separateness—a process psychedelics have facilitated for millennia in shamanic rituals and modern therapy. They quiet the default mode network (the brain’s “ego center”), allowing access to altered states where you confront and integrate shadow aspects.
✨ There's more to the world than what we experience with our five senses. People with advanced consciousness, like experienced meditators, understand this deeply. It can be frustrating to see those who are overly reliant on left-brain logic struggling to accept this concept and call it "woo-hoo", simply because their 'simple' minds haven't yet accessed altered states of consciousness. It takes years of practice and belief, starting with inner work on oneself. The challenge is that it's much easier to seek logical solutions externally—we often don't know how to look deeper within ourselves. You must learn to completely shut off your chattering ego to access the subconscious and that is the most challenging part— and it begins with diving into your subconscious where all the scary stuff lies.
This isn’t mere psychology; it’s a quantum leap in consciousness, where you awaken to the truth that “we are one”—a single, infinite awareness expressing itself through myriad forms. Since we are light, pure luminous consciousness, psychedelics often evoke visions of radiant energy, dissolving material boundaries and revealing the quantum field as a sea of light particles. And as vibration, everything resonates at frequencies that attract like energies (law of attraction meets quantum resonance), so raising capacity means elevating your vibe to magnetize wealth and deeper connections.
Psychedelics and the Default Mode Network
Psychedelics like psilocybin work by resetting your brain’s default mode network (DMN), the hub for daydreaming, self-reflection, and worry.
Think of the DMN as a DJ stuck on a repetitive playlist of stress and rumination.
Psilocybin reduces the volume, allowing your brain to form new connections.
Psilocybin binds to 5-HT2A receptors (serotonin “switches” in the brain), which are heavily concentrated in DMN regions. When activated, these receptors dial down the DMN’s chatter, loosening its grip on your thoughts. This creates a more flexible brain state, where different brain regions connect in new ways, break mental barriers, boost brain flexibility, and reduce stress-related aging, offering a powerful tool for mental health and longevity.
My Last Psychedelic Journey
The other night, I planned a ritual and dived into one of my most intense journeys ever. It was intensely spiritual, plunging me into my subconscious for deep healing and liberation. I emerged feeling lighter, optimistic, and ready for expansion—like I’d purged old weights and tuned into a higher vibration. If you’ve ever pushed your limits in a workout or meditation, this is quite similar; however, this was no casual trip, but a profound mental workout that mirrored the grit of my physical training.
Now, I only do this about once or twice a year because these experiences are overwhelmingly intense and spiritual, and the most crucial part is integration. I meet many “spiritual” people who never seem to ‘heal‘ because they become addicted to the process of these journeys. Spiritually, people may remain stuck because they resist actual awakening, ignoring the medicine only to drown in the euphoria while clinging to their eagle identities..
Psychedelics aren’t for the weak-minded.
They’re a mental workout, much like climbing high into the mountains on my road bike, diving deep into the sea, or grinding through CrossFit sessions. It’s about testing how far you can go before you “break,” because just like training your body or mind in the conscious world, you must go to the edge of discomfort in your conscious (where scary feelings hide) to heal.
During this journey, I dived multiple times into my subconscious, surfacing hidden emotions and experiences, allowing them to heal as they rose to consciousness.
Sometimes I found myself gasping for air as I emerged because of the intensity of the experience, but it was freeing—like releasing internal pressure.
This mirrors life: the discomfort is the work, and enduring it builds strength.
But with psychedelics, you must ease your way in; jumping into a large dose you’re not used to can feel extremely uncomfortable because it’s a commitment—you must ride it out until the end. That’s where you learn to coach yourself: surrender, go with the flow, and quiet the chattering ego.
Luckily, I trained myself to endure this type of indescribable discomfort on my roadbike, getting caught in life or death. situations like being 100km away from home alone without food or water, stuck at the top of the mountain in my summer gear and a blizzard roll in. I had no choice but to keep on peddling.
Just like in a psychedelic journey, you have no choice but to commit until The Medicine wears off.
To begin your journey, you must surrender and let The Medicine guide you.
Whenever I would feel myself resisting the surrender to the medicine, it would feel like static in my brain— like a stagnant buzz as my ego tries to take control. Once I became aware of this static [feeling], I’d let it go, and it disappeared, allowing me to drop into a journey.
On a previous journey, I realized that many people have anxiety when on Plant Medicine because they resist. Stop resisting.
Resisting is the ego’s last stand… but surrendering is secret to longevity and healing.
Just as in the universe, we must surrender to the flow because we are all composed of vibration.
When misaligned or off-frequency, we attract negativity or get “sick”—emotionally or physically.
I’ve been into health and fitness for over 15 years, strengthening my mind through hard things in the conscious world, which is why self-guided psychedelic journeys come naturally to me. I understand how to talk to The Medicine.
🍄 In a plant medicine journey, "talking to the medicine" means engaging with the substance as if it’s a wise teacher or guide. This isn’t a literal conversation but a deeply personal, often spiritual process where you set intentions, ask questions, or open yourself to insights during the psychedelic experience. It’s rooted in indigenous traditions who view plants like mushrooms or ayahuasca as sacred allies with wisdom to share.
The impact of epiphanies grows stronger as the medicine takes effect.
Also, when you experience certain psychedelics, you may come in and out of a journey. Or down into your subconscious… and back up consciousness again.
As the night went on, I realized I needed to be kind to my nervous system and chill between each journey; even though my mind was buzzing and eager for more after coming out of each journey, my body craved rest. My nervous system was undergoing a significant change—one that was both intensely overwhelming and liberating, and I had to give it respect.
My acupuncturist used to always remind me, “Katy, your mind is strong, but your body needs a rest. You need to stop pushing so hard all the time.”
After each dive, I want to drop into another journey for another life-changing epiphany so badly! My past self would have done just that. However, after experiencing significant spiritual growth over the past few years, I’ve learned the importance of pausing to reflect on my current insights. It’s easy to become addicted to each “drop”, but I am teaching myself patience and the value of processing before moving on.
The Dangers of Psychedelics: Addicting Euphoria
I had this realization during one of my bathroom breaks. You know that feeling when you return to reality after a psychedelic experience, but the effects of the substance are still lingering? When you sit still (on the toilet, lol), you easily slip back into that altered state— where everything feels so peaceful and euphoric— as if you are melting into your surroundings, becoming “one” with everything.
In those moments, I couldn’t help but think, “No wonder some people become addicted. It’s such a beautiful reminder of how peaceful life can be,
But then, my logical side chimed in, and I started to feel a twinge of anxiety: “Wait, I have responsibilities; I can’t just drift away!”
But instead of letting that worry take over, I reassured myself: “I’m already in this moment, and it won’t last forever. So why not embrace it fully, without fear? After all, that’s the whole point of the spiritual journey.”
Healing occurs when the mind is quiet.
That’s the only way to access your subconscious—by completely turning off the incessant chatter of your conscious mind, which tends to overanalyze everything and be overly logical.
Key Epiphanies: Purging and Awakening
Purging the Bloat: Releasing Emotional Buildup
One strange experience I had was when I looked out of my right eye (creative hemisphere), my body looked bloated from unprocessed trauma.
“That’s strange”, I thought— so I looked through my left eye (logical hemisphere)— everything appeared normal.
It reminded me of Jill Taylor’s “My Stroke of Insight” TED talk, where her left-brain stroke quieted logic and ego, letting her right brain’s sense of oneness flood in. She described merging with the universe’s energy, feeling expansive and at peace—similar to what happens when taking psilocybin, where the analytical left brain quiets, allowing the right’s sense of unity to emerge. Scientifically, the left hemisphere is responsible for logic, language, and ego (or separateness). In contrast, the right hemisphere processes spatial awareness, intuition, and holistic perception (although modern neuroscience reveals that they’re interconnected, rather than strictly divided— but there’s a lot we cannot explain).
In my case, the right-side bloating revealed how suppressed emotions were occupying unnecessary space, blocking my intuition and sense of oneness, and even distorting my figure.
When I chose to let it go [mentally], the bloating deflated, and I looked like myself again, symbolizing release.
Right after, I lay still blissfully, feeling lighter than ever—like a huge weight had lifted off my shoulders.
I started smiling and giggling.
Then tears of relief flowed as I finally released a year of unprocessed grief. It was an overwhelming experience, and soon, the intensity grew—I’ve realized I hadn’t cried like this in ages. How good it felt.
This wasn’t just an ordinary tear; it was a deep, cathartic release.
My body shook, and the sounds it made were raw and real, almost like a joyful purge. It felt incredibly liberating to let it all out, and I couldn’t be more grateful for this moment of healing.
It was a purge… of everything dark… turning into light.

“Just Be”: Surrendering to Presence
Another breakthrough was the mantra “just be.”
It came as I descended into a dark hole of deep thoughts, snapping me out suddenly with profound awakening.
If you’ve experienced psychedelics, you might relate to that exhilarating shift that suddenly reveals a vibrant new reality.
This breakthrough finally helped me embrace existence without overthinking.
We humans often shape our emotions around neutral events, leading to unnecessary grief and anxiety.
“Just be” invites presence, flow, and acceptance, freeing us from over-analysis and control.
It finally clicked that night.
The experience merged me into one consciousness—vibration, light, bliss—reminding me of my awakened state since childhood. I had my first out-of-body experience (awakening) when I was six years old, so altered states of consciousness always came easily to me.
When I lifted my sleeping mask, I was amazed to see the world around me buzzing with vibrant energy, revealing the beautiful connection we all share through vibration. The room sparkled like an otherworldly masterpiece, filled with shimmering lines and radiant lights, and everything blended seamlessly, like it does on mushrooms (“oneness”). It was a magical moment, a true testament to the wonder of the human mind. This isn’t the first time—I’ve seen it in previous journeys and meditation, reinforcing that we are energy, connected and expansive.
I have a belief that mushrooms bring us back to our true state of being.
I let my nervous system rest and took in the feeling of bliss and euphoria before preparing myself to drop into my subconscious again.
I felt that familiar hum of static — of my own resistance, but told my logical mind to shut up, and I instantly surrendered to the music. This time, a flow of thoughts and imagery burst into my mind, and then soon I resurfaced again, and as I was coming up, I saw everything that had happened to me the past year that I hadn’t let go… flash in my eyes, layer by layer and then dissolve into the conscious world.
That’s when I knew I was letting it go.
After that drop, the feeling of release was insanely purifying.
I had to get up and move my body. My mind was going “WTF— that was one of the most intense moments I’ve ever had in my life. I will never forget it.
This journey was exactly what I needed. I’m grateful for The Medicine’s wisdom and the strength it builds.

Key Takeaways and Intention Moving Forward
We Are Vibration and Oneness
This journey reinforced that we are vibration. When aligned, we flow with the universe’s bliss; misaligned, we attract blocks. It’s a reminder to surrender, just as in physical training or daily life, to heal and expand.
Key Takeaways:
- Psychedelics as mental workouts: Dive deep, push limits, but ease in and surrender to surface and heal.
- “Just be”: Let go of meaning-making for peace and flow.
- We are vibration— merge with consciousness for bliss and alignment.
- Dive deep, but surface to breathe: strike a balance between intensity and reflection.
Dear reader, if you’re new to inner work or awakening, this might seem wild. I was there once. When I didn’t believe that, you could create your reality with just your thoughts.
I remember gasping at a I remember sitting in my room, one night, reading a book a friend gave me about mindset, and absolute disbelief, not understanding how you can shape reality with just your thoughts. That’s crazy!
Now, I get it.
